Dear Friends,

As some of you may know, I have recently left the Human Development Report Office (HDRO), UNDP, and joined the Economic and Social Policy unit within UNICEF's Division of Policy and Planning. I will be supporting a global study on child poverty and disparities involving 40 countries in every region (I will keep you updated on progress through the networks!).

During my almost six years at HDRO, facilitating the HDR networks, and supporting HDR teams, I have got to know many of you– either through an opportunity to meet you face to face, or ‘virtually’.  I have learnt so much from this committed community of human development professionals.  I would like to thank you for all the vibrant discussions we have hosted on the HDR-net and HDRStats-net over the years – and I know the momentum we have established will continue.  It is so impressive how far the national, regional and global HDR movement has progressed in promoting the human development agenda and mobilizing action to change the lives of the poor across the world.

I would like to thank Kevin Watkins for his incredible leadership.  I would also like to thank the NHDR unit – Cecilia Ugaz, Mary Ann Mwangi and Tim Scott - for being such a wonderful team to work with – I know that they will continue to support the great work undertaken by HDR teams.  Finally, all the staff at HDRO (including our former colleagues – Sarah Burd-Sharps, Juan Pablo Mejia and Hanna Schmitt from the unit, among others), UNDP colleagues and members of the HDR networks who have been my family over the last six years – a big thank you!  While it is with great sadness that I leave such a wonderful group of people at UNDP, it is comforting to know that I will continue to be part of this dynamic network of professionals.

Thank you for everything and please keep in touch!

Best,
Sharmila
